THE FUTURE

This month, I decided to share my thoughts in a way that's vastly different from what most dedicated readers are used to. I decided to share my thoughts on the million dreams that keep me awake, I decided to share my thoughts on the future, my future. I started with the thing that those who have gone ahead of me have said is most important. I talked about grades. I needed to question the validity of grades. Would all the grades I've amassed over the years be important when I actually need them to be? I asked myself. Would good grades be just enough to achieve all my goals? Are my grades really important? Since my grades may not get me where I want to go, when I want to get there; I needed to ask myself what would and how long would it take me to. At that point, I realised there was even more uncertainty. Nonetheless I decided to embrace the uncertainty and trust the process . I decided to leverage my grades when necessary and pack them up when they're not bec

THE CRISIS OF URGENCY

This generation, my generation is so concerned with getting rich and doing it early. We want to make it big, we want to 'blow' and we want to do it NOW or at least some time really soon. This urge gets ignited all the more when we see and hear people achieving this at really young ages. We see the likes of Evan Spiegel, Co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc. (originally called Snapchat Inc.) with a net worth of $4.3 billion currently 27 years old; Bobby Murphy, Co-founder and CTO of Snap Inc. with a net worth of $3.2 billion currently 29 years old and of course,  the youngest billionaires in the world, the Norwegian heiresses Alexandra and Katharina Andresen, who are 21 and 22 years old, respectively. With large inheritances of $1.4 billion each. Occasionally, we wish to be like the Norwegian heiresses, get born into fortune and have large inheritances to pull out of it so you don't have to work a day in your life 😁. However, seeing as we can't change

PRESSURE

Ever had an assignment or a project or a goal that was to be executed on or before a specific day? Ever postponed that project till its one week, one day or one hour before its due? 😏 Well, you'd be in line for a very unhealthy dose of pressure. If you're in this situation, one of two things could happen. First, the deadlines could actually help you to do your work quicker and move on to the next job to be done. Alternatively, since most humans are like me --- lazy, w hen the deadlines are unreasonable or you've procrastinated too much so it's impossible to do anything meaningful with the time that's left you would not get any work done. Ever had your day totally planned out to the last second then someone that may or may not be close to you walks in and interrupts every single part of the plan? Peer pressure, unlike what our parents and teachers have told us, can actually be good. Your friends (good or bad 😉) could actually help make you

TRUST THE PROCESS

When I was younger, much younger I wanted to be a doctor. I thought being a doctor was so cool (I still think it's cool 😉), getting to wear a white lab coat all day, with your earpiece (stethoscope) around your neck, walking around looking so smart and everything. I had to be a doctor! It wasn't until I got to junior secondary school that I realised that science wasn't for me. I didn't like the work that came with science plus I didn't like the fact that I had to spend a large chunk of my youth learning it. So I switched. I decided the next best thing was to become a lawyer. I mean, people said I argue alot and some even go as far as calling me a lawyer (they still do 😅). So I thought to myself, that's great, let's do that instead. When I got to JSS3 (9th grade) I realised how much I hated reading. Most of the literature texts we were made to read were boring to me. To make matters worse, I found out that studying law was less speaking and more r

ARE GRADES REALLY IMPORTANT? 😯

I was at a conference yesterday and the speaker asked "How important is it to get a first class?" And as usual, nobody offered to answer the question 😂 (Side note: I don't know if it's just my class, but for some reason, students of this generation would rather not answer questions in any gathering even if they know the right answer. It's funnier when the lecturer starts the class saying "I want this class to be interactive" 😂😂😂) Ok back to the topic... After a few minutes, 3 people out of about a hundred offered to answer. One of them said in summary that "1st class graduates are in high demand" in fact that organisations fight over them 😂. He went on to say that 2nd class upper and lower divisions would have to work really hard to get jobs and that those in the 3rd class division would only get jobs if the hirer has pity on them because they'd have to search for a really long while to get jobs. In that moment, I was like 👇
