THE CRISIS OF URGENCY

This generation, my generation is so concerned with getting rich and doing it early. We want to make it big, we want to 'blow' and we want to do it NOW or at least some time really soon. This urge gets ignited all the more when we see and hear people achieving this at really young ages. We see the likes of

Evan Spiegel, Co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc. (originally called Snapchat Inc.) with a net worth of $4.3 billion currently 27 years old;

Bobby Murphy, Co-founder and CTO of Snap Inc. with a net worth of $3.2 billion currently 29 years old

and of course, the youngest billionaires in the world, the Norwegian heiresses Alexandra and Katharina Andresen, who are 21 and 22 years old, respectively. With large inheritances of $1.4 billion each.

Occasionally, we wish to be like the Norwegian heiresses, get born into fortune and have large inheritances to pull out of it so you don't have to work a day in your life 😁. However, seeing as we can't change the families we are born into and all the wishes we've had about one day finding out that our 'real parents' are very rich or that our parents were hiding their fortune all along, we have to opt in for number 2 option. Starting a business that might one day grow to make you billions. I dare say, this is the reason why 'entrepreneurship' is the most attractive vocation to go into in this generation.

The youth is faced with this burden to excel early in life. He is burdened with the pressure of peer success. He is tempted to do the things he doesn't want to do or things he wasn't endowed to do to achieve what others have. The youth is cursed, cursed with the crisis of urgency.  The urge to succeed early, like it has been done before.

When the youth do excel, a second burden comes, the burden of building a lasting legacy. The burden of remaining at the top. For some youth, somewhere along the line, they get dragged down by issues that may go a long way to test the validity of the success stories they have. The likes of

Elizabeth Holmes the CEO of Theranos

and the most recent one, Mark Zuckerberg.

While I don't think the crisis of urgency is a death trap on its own, I think there are a few realities the youth might need to face before they get confronted by them later on.

The pressures we face as young people cannot be taken with tender spines, shaken will and flinching courage. In the pursuit of early success we would be confronted with the fiercest of battles that will test the validity of our strength. We need to face the reality that our success is and would be a threat to someone's previous success and no one would let their success go down the drain without a fight. Hence, the battles we'd face.

We need to focus on the seemingly unimportant details because the world we live in would not forgive us for our mistakes no matter how little and our age would not be taken as an excuse. Our age would most likely be blamed for our shortcomings.

Friends, we need to be ready to brave these storms not just for our sake alone but for future generations who would choose to walk the same path. We must fight and we must win every time ✊.
Greatness will find you speedily. I'm sure of it.

This is very good write up baby girl keep it up this makes a lot of sense
This is the cause of get rich schemes. We live with the mantra of "Get rich or die trying." This is especially in this age where entertainment such as sports, music, film making make the most money and many youth want to venture into these things without having developed themselves in these art forms.

Really nice write up Edna.
So true. Nice one dear, keep it up

I'M MOVING TO AUSTRALIA 🥳🎉🎉

I’m moving…. AGAIN? Call me Kwaku the traveller cos I do be travelling… but not this time. I’m actually moving. By now, most (if not everyone) reading this blog knows I've moved to Sydney, Australia. When I first posted about arriving in Australia on WhatsApp, I think some people thought I was just visiting Australia because I have been travelling A LOT this year. In just 9 months of this year, I've been to 6 countries, including Singapore and Australia, which is A LOT! If you didn't already figure it out, the reason I was travelling like a headless chicken in summer was because I sorta knew I was leaving the UK. So I wanted to get the most out of that location proximity and visa while I could. Few people fully understand how and why I made the move, and posting this on Twitter revealed this very jarringly. Especially since the tweet referenced me having worked in Cairo, London and now Sydney all by the --- very ripe (I quickly rued my choice of "very ripe age" a...

A LUNCH TO REMEMBER

I'm writing this blog on Sunday, the 26th of May, 2024. On Wednesday, I posted about this incredible lunch I had that I was going to share the details of on my WhatsApp status but never got around to writing down the story. To truly “immortalize” this experience, I’ve decided to also share this story on my blog. Here's the story. Let’s start at the beginning. My industry friend invited me to this steak lunch at a restaurant called Bistecca.  All I knew about the restaurant was the name. I typed in the details on Google Maps and walked from my office. When I was 1 minute away, I thought a building I saw in the distance was the restaurant, but when I got closer, I realized it wasn’t it. I looked around, trying to find said restaurant while simultaneously swearing for Google Maps; after all, this wouldn't be the 1st time Google Maps had led me astray. Remember my Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very bad day ? Yeah, that was all proudly sponsored by Google Maps. While looking arou...

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Recently, I decided to open an account with one of the most reliable banks I know because the bank I currently use is not particularly good. On that day, my friend and I went with the required documents to the branch that's located in my school. Since it's a small branch, there was only one desk officer and if you're familiar with the procedure for opening an account, the bank usually needs a copy of some documents that you can't give them the original to, e.g. international passport, student ID. Since the desk officer couldn't leave his station to make photocopies of these documents, he had to get the security guard to do the work for him. The security guy came with so much attitude to him. At first, he accused us of forging documents because one of the original documents we brought wasn't "printed in color", next he couldn't find my passport that I already gave to him so he started shouting at me as if I would steal my own passport . After a f...
